Girdles increase the torsional rigidity of the cylinder block and evenly distributes load and dampens harmonics by bolting the main cap studs together. The increased rigidity and strength of these girdles on the bottom end allows extra stress to be placed on these motors. Highly modified vehicles using Nitrous Oxide, Turbochargers or Superchargers can aid from these girdles as the increased stress on the cylinder block is reduced. Banks Power joins Mike Ryan Motorsports for Pikes Peak run

Banks has partnered with Mike Ryan Motorsports and his Freightliner Cascadia Class 8 semitruck racer. Semis race in the Pikes Peak Open class, which is reserved for cars and trucks that look stock from the outside but retain little of the original design.

Volvo is working on cordless charging for electric cars
Thu, 31 Oct 2013Imagine not having to actually exit and plug in your electric car (assuming you have an electric car to plug in), and instead just parking it over a special parking spot. That's the promise of a new technology that Volvo is working on, and if taken to the mass market once made commercially viable, it means electric cars will be able to recharge just by sitting over a charger built into the parking spot's surface. That would certainly eliminate the need for those bulky upright chargers that are spreading around the country.
